Ride Boards

Find where everyone is going.

A Ride Board is a noticeboard for student transport and social plans. You do not have to need a ride to open it, sometimes you just want to see who is heading out and pull up a seat.

Three kinds of post

Available rides

A student driver posts a planned trip: destination, departure time, seats left.

“Heading to Mic Mac Mall on Saturday at 1 PM. Two seats available.”

Ride requests

Students post where they want to go and when, plus the fuel split they expect for the seat. Drivers find the requests that fit the trip they were driving anyway.

“Looking for a seat to the mall around 1 PM. Suggested fuel split $6.”

Activities & outings

Plans that are not transport yet: a market, a game, a study session, with a ride optionally attached.

“A few of us are going to the waterfront this evening. Who wants to join us?”

The fuel split

A seat has a price, and it is called a fuel split.

Every shared ride has one price for the seat: the fuel split. It is not a fare, not a tip and not a favour. It is the cost of the seat and is stated up front. Riders suggest one with a request, drivers set their own inside the range Ronnect recommends for the trip, and nobody has to ask twice.

The rider suggests

A request carries a suggested fuel split for the seat: $6 to the mall, $10 to the airport, as examples. It is a starting point, not a quote.

The driver sets the price

The driver confirms that split, or sets their own inside the range Ronnect recommends for the trip.

Nobody negotiates

The price is on the post. There is no haggling in the car and no surprise on the day.

One board, with filters, not five disconnected ones.

Students navigate badly when a product splits itself into separate communities. The board stays single, and the filter does the work.

A post can carry more than one purpose: a student posts a concert, attaches the ride they're taking, invites their Ride Buddies, and lets other verified students request the remaining seat.

The loop this creates

  • Rides create connections

Every shared trip is a chance to meet someone going your way.

  • Connections create plans

Buddies post outings and invite each other.

  • Plans create more rides

More people travel together, so seats fill and prices stay sane.

This is also the answer to the hardest problem in ride-sharing: enough active people in the same place at the same time. Plans bring people to the board before they need a ride at all.
